Beastie Boys: Ill Communication (1994)

beasties ill communicationBy Scott Goldfine

The fourth album from the Beastie Boys marks the first time the adventurous rap-rock trio hasn’t done a musical about-face from their previous LP. Having explored punk, metal and sample-based rap, the Beasties seem content sticking to the retro jazz-funk of 1992’s terrific “Check Your Head.”

Even better, “Ill Communication” is an hour’s worth of perpetual eclecticism with a killer beat.
