Beck: Odelay (1996)

beck odelay

By Scott Goldfine

Multi-instrumentalist Beck shirks the novelty act label, acquired via his 1994 Gen-X anthem “Loser,” with this entertaining sophomore album. Throwing in a little of everything from country blues to Beatlesque pop to hip hop, Beck’s wide musical swath synchronizes disparate elements into a cohesive whole.

The Dust Brothers, who helped the Beastie Boys achieve a similar transmutation, co-produce.
