Cameo: Emotional Violence (1992)

cameo emotional violence

By Scott Goldfine

Veteran funk trio Cameo returns with “Emotional Violence,” their third outing since the 1986 smash “Word Up!” thrust them into the pop mainstream. Chief architect Larry Blackman has wisely toned down his own singing, drafting a collection rife with the band’s signature group vocals, positive lyrics and pounding grooves.

But while the title cut burns, the bulk of the album simply smolders.
