The Cohen brothers (“Blood Simple”), renowned for their film noir stylings, dark humor and quirky characters, have hit pay dirt again with this prime effort. It’s about a car salesman whose scheme to have his wife kidnapped so he can split the ransom goes terribly awry.
Great performances, including Frances McDormand as a smalltown sheriff, and the Cohens’ inimitable flair add to the lurid fun. William H. Macy and Steve Buscemi turn in flawless performances. Rated R.
