Hammer: Too Legit to Quit (1991)

hammer too legit

By Scott Goldfine

Hammer, the most successful performer to ever enter the rap arena, continues to move away from the genre’s roots on his third LP, “Too Legit to Quit.” Using real music, as opposed to samples, and the talents of co-producers Felton Pilate II (formerly of classic funk band Con Funk Shun), Hammer lays social messages over pumping beats.

But since he’s a much better dancer than rapper, Hammer remains better seen than heard.
