This collection of 15 alternate versions and outtakes is the latest release in the wake of the recent court battle won by Jimi Hendrix’s family to oversee his music catalog. Comprised of recordings made during his meteoric rise and overdose (1967-1970), “South Saturn Delta” aims to provide insight into the guitar god’s creativity. If anything, the handsomely packaged set proves that not everything Hendrix put on tape was fit to be heard.
There are moments where his genius shines through, but most of the LP is strictly for the most ardent followers.
