By Scott Goldfine

Melodic folk-tinged pop permeates singer/songwriter Joan Armatrading’s latest work, “The Shouting Stage.” The vocalist’s distinctive singing eloquently carries and album laden with wistful love songs about one-on-one relationships.

Best described as a cross between Anita Baker and Tracy Chapman, this effort could bring Armatrading the commercial success that has eluded her.
