Nine Inch Nails: The Downward Spiral (1994)

nin downwardBy Scott Goldfine

Angst-ridden musical auteur Trent Reznor delivers on the promise of his well-received 1989 debut with “The Downward Spiral.” Combining punk thrash with dense, pulsating techno-dance beats, Reznor sweeps the listener into a bleak world where women are whores, the masses are either ignorant or evil, God is nonexistent and suicide is a viable alternative.

The wanton “Closer” is a highlight.
