Nirvana: In Utero (1993)

nirvana in utero

By Scott Goldfine

Nirvana, the grunge rockers who opened up the floodgates through which the Seattle sound has flowed, have come up with a worthy sequel to their 1991 multiformat smash “Nevermind.” With anguished lyrics that intertwine the media assault singer-guitarist Kurt Cobain has undergone and the recent pregnancy of his wife, the trio concocts an arresting amalgam of folk melodies and punk thrash.

Most of the material is immediately compelling or comes to become so in short order upon repeated listenings.
