Nirvana: Unplugged in New York (1994)

nirvana unpluggedBy Scott Goldfine

The essence of the late Kurt Cobain’s passion sharply pierces through this mostly acoustic set of Seattle grunge band Nirvana’s 1993 performance on MTV’s “Unplugged” series. Dominated by the trio’s splendid “Nevermind” and “In Utero” efforts, the album is buoyed by raw, emotional signing, angst-fortified lyrics and rhythmic, subconscious-penetrating music.

A bittersweet treasure.
