Red Heat (1988)

Punches and gunshots so loud they rattle your guts! That’s the intensity of Walter Hill’s visceral action films — and “Red Heat” is no exception. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a Soviet cop who works with James Belushi to catch a Russian drug lord in Chicago.

Shallow characters prevent it from working as well as Hill’s iconic “48 Hrs.” But the action is great and the comic relief amusing. Also stars Peter Boyle, Laurence Fishburne and Gina Gershon. Rated R.
