Danny DeVito teams up with co-star Billy Crystal in the offbeat black comedy, “Throw Momma From the Train.” In his directing debut, DeVito plays a frustrated son who wants to do away with his abusive mother.

The DeVito and Crystal pairing provides some belly laughs, but the film is marred by some awkward moments and isn’t among DeVito’s best efforts. Also stars Anne Ramsey (as Momma), Kate Mulgrew, jazz musician Branford Marsalis and Rob Reiner. Rated PG-13.
