Set in Victorian England, this unusual drama tells the tale of an entomologist (Mark Rylance) who, after years spent in the Amazon Jungle, becomes a wealthy patriarch’s live-in assistant. Despite social obstacles, the naturalist weds his employer’s daughter (Patsy Kensit) before eventually discovering the family’s deep, dark secret.
It’s an engrossing, albeit shallow and overly deliberate film. Also stars Kristen Scott Thomas.
