Matthew Broderick extends the character from Neil Simon’s “Brighton Beach Memoirs” in this coming-of-age comedy set in a Mississippi boot camp during World War II. Brimming with well-defined and colorful characters, this Mike Nichols-directed film is funny, poignant and thoroughly entertaining.
Christopher Walken gives a marvelous turn as Broderick’s steel-plate-headed drill sergeant. Rated PG-13.
