Having dabbled in African, Caribbean and Cajun music as the Talking Heads’ mastermind, David Byrne ventures into Latin rhythms on his first solo outing. On the surface, this LP ― featuring merengues, cumbias and sambas ― resembles the Heads’ adventuresome quirkiness.
However, only a few songs, such as “Women Vs. Men,” are worthy of that comparison.
