Godfather of Funk George Clinton and his P-Funk All-Stars revived their spectacular Mothership Connection extravaganza of the 1970s at L.A. Universal Amphitheatre Thursday night. Although Bootsy Collins’ no-show was a disappointment, Clinton, still amazingly spry at 55, led his huge ensemble through a three-hour, building-quaking run of classics such as “(Not Just) Knee Deep” and “Atomic Dog.”
The exhilarating highlight was the centerstage landing of a spaceship amid wailing funk.
