Lisa Stansfield, England’s answer to Teena Marie, whose 1989 debut “Affection” went platinum, does not disappoint on her new album “Real Love.” Molded by 1960s and 1970s soul music, the singer shines regardless of the tempo. Stansfield wails when necessary, but her intuitive sense of restraint sets her apart.
Occasional disco-era production elements are this LP’s only drawback.
