R&B singer-songwriter-bassist Me’shell Ndegeocello proves her striking 1993 debut, “Plantation Lullabies,” was no fluke with the even-more accomplished “Peace Beyond Passion.” The musician effectively alternates singing and spoken word to convey frank themes of spirituality, oppression, sexuality and love that recall Prince but cut deeper.
The controversial Ndegeocello is a talent to be reckoned with.
