A young Washington FBI man (Willem Dafoe) enlists a veteran Southern agent (Gene Hackman) to investigate racially motivated murders in “Mississippi Burning.” Based on a 1964 incident, the film illustrates how horrible prejudice in a group-think environment can be and reinforces the importance of civil rights.
The acting and direction are superb in what is one of 1988’s very best. Directed by Alan Parker, this unforgettable picture also stars Frances McDormand and Brad Dourif. Rated R.
