Naked Lunch (1992)

naked lunchBy Scott Goldfine

Director David Chronenberg (“The Fly”) uses William S. Burrough’s cult classic novel as the basis for this bizarre, low-key tale of a junkie writer (Peter Weller) battling inner demons. What little story there is takes place in “Interzone,” a hallucinatory world that features giant, mutating roaches that talk.

Everyone involved does a first-rate job, but the film is unbearably dull and pointless. Also stars Judy Davis, Ian Holm and Roy Scheider. Rated R.
