Veteran R&B/funk band the Ohio Players returned to the scene Saturday night at the Strand in Redondo Beach (Calif.). The new version of the band has just five members (three from their 1970s heyday), and no horn section.
The absence of brass was conspicuous, but the group filled the void admirably with juiced-up guitar riffs in a 90-minute set that included the smashes “Skintight,” “Love Rollercoaster” and “Fire.”
