Created, produced and co-hosted by music journalist and critic Scott Goldfine and also featuring co-host Malissia Simpson, “Platter Chatter” was an album reviews TV program that originally aired 8:30 p.m. on Sundays in Los Angeles from 1988-1990. Based on the concept of critically assessing musical works in a presentation style similar to the wildly popular “At the Movies,” the show also mixed in some concert reviews and remote clips in the field. “Platter Chatter” built up a strong, loyal following and at one point was involved in discussions with Quincy Jones’ production company for pick-up and syndication. But it was not to be and the shows would sit in storage unseen by the public for more than 25 years.
Now, having recently been digitized and uploaded, for the first time ever they are accessible to the Internet’s global audience. In all more than 75 album reviews, including those from acts like Prince, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder, Jeff Beck, George Clinton, Metallica, Herbie Hancock, Robert Plant and so many others, are featured in the programs below.
