The Purple Crusader delivers a potent funk-opera inspired by and featured in the film “Batman.”
The collection’s nine numbers are sung from the point of view of the saga’s four main characters. The Joker-themed funk-rock tunes “Electric Chair” and “Partyman” excel, but it’s Bruce Wayne’s haunting “Vicki Waiting” and Vicki Vale’s hypnotic “Lemon Crush” that are among Prince’s best work.
