Tales From the Hood (1995)

By Scott Goldfine

Director Rusty Cundieff, who debuted last year with the keen rap music satire “Fear of a Black Hat,” has avoided the sophomore jinx with the highly entertaining horror film “Tales From the Hood.”

After a tepid start, this collection of macabre stories ― the equivalent of HBO’s “Tales From the Crypt” from an African-American perspective — kicks into high gear and finishes with a flourish. Stars Clarence Williams III, Corbin Bernsen and David Alan Grier. Rated R.
