This legal drama, the fifth John Grisham adaptation, is about a young attorney (Chris O’Donnell) trying to save his incarcerated grandfather (Gene Hackman) from the gas chamber. Set in Mississippi, the movie plays like “A Time to Kill” meets “Dead Man Walking.”
Hackman is stellar as a Klan member who murdered two Jewish children, but, like Grisham’s predecessors, “The Chamber” lacks soul. Also stars Faye Dunaway and Bo Jackson. Rated R.
