Sydney Pollack directs John Grisham’s bestselling thriller about a young attorney (Tom Cruise) recruited by a generous but insidious law firm. The recruit’s excitement turns into fright and misery as he discovers his new employer is under FBI investigation for mob ties.
“The Firm” has a great cast, but loses its way and at more than two-and-a-half hours is much too flabby. The all-star casts also includes Jeanne Tripplehorn, Gene Hackman, Hal Holbrook, Wilford Brimley, Ed Harris, Holly Hunter and Gary Busey. Rated R.
