The Frighteners (1996)

The pieces were in place for this horror-comedy to soar. The film boasts the likable Michael J. Fox, bright director Peter Jackson, flashy producer Robert Zemeckis, effects wizard Rick Baker and a Danny Elfman score.

So why does this tale about a homicidal ghost play so flat? Because the story is too thin to sustain interest amid the wild visuals. File it between “Casper” and “Ghostbusters.”Also stars John Astin, Jeffrey CombsDee Wallace and Jake Busey. Rated R.
