The Pompatus of Love (1996)

pompatus of loveBy Scott Goldfine

Jon Cryer writes, produces and stars as one of four male friends trying to figure out what love and women are all about in the winning comedy “The Pompatus of Love.” The curious title refers to Steve Miller’s classic song “The Joker” and reflects the characters’ tumultuous relationships.

Despite rapid-fire editing that sometimes sacrifices poignancy for quips, this film is a worthwhile experience. Also stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Jennifer Tilly. Rated R.
