Brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET and hosted by Scott Goldfine — musicologist and author of “Everything Is on the One: The First Guide of Funk” ― “TRUTH IN RHYTHM” is the interview show that gets DEEP into the pocket with contemporary music’s foremost masters of the groove.
Featured in this two-part series: Keyboardist, composer, producer Keith “Chop Chop” Harrison, an original member of the funk band Faze-O and subsequent member of the mighty Heatwave and Grammy-winning Dazz Band. Hailing from Ohio’s ground zero of funk, Dayton, Harrison has recorded such funk classics as “Riding High,” “Good Thang” and “Breakin’ the Funk” with Faze-O; “Gangsters of the Groove,” “Jitterbuggin’,” “Posin’ Til Closin’,” and “Lettin’ It Loose” with Heatwave; and “On the One for Fun,” “Swoop,” “Joystick” and “Let It All Blow” with the Dazz Band. And there are many other gems tucked away on the 10 albums he was featured on with those groups.
Through the years, Harrison has also recorded or performed with the Ohio Players, Morris Day & the Time, P-Funk, Jeff Lorber and Charlie Wilson. As part of the Dazz Band he was inducted into the R&B Music Hall of Fame and this year he released his first solo album, called One Love.
One of funk’s best-kept secrets takes you inside his groups’ songs, albums, tours and shares memories and stories from his four-decade-long musical journey.
