Set in 1976, Donald Sutherland is a naïve South African schoolteacher who realizes the injustices surrounding him in this human right melodrama. The film is moving and never drags, although it does lose some of its bite in the second half.
Adding to the film’s strong points are Marlon Brando’s amusing turn as a barrister and good acting throughout that also includes Zakes Mokae, Jürgen Prochnow and Susan Sarandon. Rated R.
