Alternative singer-guitarist Beck has parlayed his underground hit “Loser” into the major-label debut album “Mellow Gold.” Flashes of Bob Dylan and the Beastie Boys surface among Beck’s hodgepodge musical patchwork, which when teamed with his flow-of-consciousness lyrics, add up to a highly quirky mix.
Only a few tracks ignite, but it’s a fun LP if you don’t take it too seriously.
