The Georgia-based Black Crowes serve up their second soulful, retro-sounding rock on “The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion.” While favoring a mellower approach than on their multiplatinum debut “Shake Your Moneymaker,” the sextet manages to remain pleasingly rough around the edges.
Some tunes drone on too long, but the Crowes appear to be the 1990s answer to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
