Danish director Lars von Trier (“The Kingdom”) turns his lens to a remote Scottish village for a tragic tale of love, devotion and faith. The story focused on Bess (newcomer Emily Watson), a naïve young newlywed whose life is destroyed after her husband is paralyzed in an oil-rig accident.
This lengthy film has quality performances, but it’s the year’s most emotionally draining experience.
