Singer’s singer Chaka Khan resurfaces with “The Woman I Am,” her first album since 1988’s “C.K.” Khan ― whose inimitable style combines the phrasing of jazz, emotion of gospel and power of hard rock ― wails with the kind of conviction and clarity she last evoked 10 years ago.
It’s a shame that only about 50% of the 60-plus minutes contained on this LP do her justice.
