Rock guitar fans were in seventh heaven Saturday night as the G3 tour — with virtuosos Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson and Joe Satriani — played the Hollywood Bowl. Young phenom Shepherd proved worthy of the bill; Vai was flashy and fun; and Satriani left no doubt why he’s the Zen master of the fretboard. Only Johnson disappointed.
A jam session highlighted and closed the show.

I was at the G3 Hollywood Bowl show, too. I think I unfortunately missed Adrian Legg as the opener? I would’ve loved to have seen him as he’s a master on acoustic.
I remember Eric Johnson not playing Cliffs of Dover… and later reading an interview that Satriani was not happy with Eric doing that [thereby disappointing fans]. Something about Eric being upset about something and cutting his set short by dropping [THE] song.
Is that what you recall, as well?
Thanks for your comment. I do not remember that level of detail at this point, but your insights are fascinating.
