Gladys Knight, one of the classiest vocalists to emerge from the Motown era, has put aside the Pips for her first solo album, “Good Woman.” After opening with a pair of dance jams that would make Janet Jackson pause, Knight settles into a cozy mood that enlists Dionne Warwick and Patti LaBelle on the centerpiece “Superwoman.”
This super woman’s warm, rich singing remains a soulful wonder.
