Keyboardist Herbie Hancock has put his electronic gadgets, which he used so well on last year’s techno-funk effort “Dis Is Da Drum,” back in the closet for the acoustic-geared jazz album “The New Standard.” The 10-track set reworks pop songs by such highly regarded composers as Don Henley, Prince and Nirvana.
Unfortunately, the music seldom captivates and is unlikely to satisfy jazz or pop fans.
