Robert De Niro stars as a Vietnam veteran who returns to his hometown and tries to rekindle the friendship of a fellow vet and lifelong buddy (Ed Harris). De Niro becomes torn between his friend’s lingering war trauma and a relationship with Harris’ sister (Kathy Baker).
It may be a tired theme, but superb acting (especially Harris) and a sense of hope and life renewal, elevate this film. Rated R.
