Featured in Jam Fans Forum Episode 14: This is the show in which expert panelists provide their top picks in various funk music categories. This time around, we are riding the love rollercoaster into the tight, sticky and fiery funk of one of the greatest bands of ever – the mighty Ohio Players! We’re taking on the painful and pleasurable mission of choosing their five all-time best songs to deliver a reasonably definitive top 20. The goal is objectivity, but as with all the Jam Fan shows, some subjectivity is inevitable. It all adds up to another Day-ton in the office, and a ton of fun!
Joining host Scott “DR GX” Goldfine are three esteemed Jam Fans: Music & culture journalist and liner notes master A. Scott Galloway; music scholar, author and History of Funk radio show host Rickey Vincent; Stockholm-based radio broadcaster, DJ and funk/soul enthusiast promoting the music since the mid-1980s, Maria Granditsky, a.k.a. Miss Funkyflyy. Thanks to all of them for keeping the funk alive!
Panelists’ Picks Ground Rules:
– Pick your 5 best Ohio Players songs
– OPs must be the credited artist; no solo works or collaborations
– Panelists reveal their picks one at a time, explain why and allow others to react.
– Picks are not shared ahead of time, so everyone experiences the reveals together.
– Panelists compile alternates in case someone else names the same pick first. Thus, we will end up with 20 picks in total!
– Picks may be shared in random or non-chronological order.
– Picks may be based more on personal preference than historical context.
