Steve Martin stars as Rev. Jonas Nightengale in this drama about a crooked traveling ministry. The preacher and his band of shysters set up in a depressed farm town after one of their cargo trucks breaks down. The desperate townsfolk prove to be the perfect prey for the reverend’s scam.
An excellent cast, particularly Debra Winger as Nightengale’s main accomplice, anchors this involving film. Also stars Lolita Davidovich, Liam Neeson, Lukas Haas, Meat Loaf and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Rated PG.
