Micro Cosmos (1996)

By Scott Goldfine

A magnificent army, a noble duel of titans and a passionate love affair. Sounds like a medieval epic. It’s an epic alright, but the players are ants, beetles and snails. This astounding French documentary, which eschews narration but speaks loudly via images and sounds, takes the viewer inside the amazing world of insects.

It’s the best film of its kind since 1971’s “The Hellstrom Chronicle.” Narrated by Kristin Scott Thomas. Rated G.
