Musical styles collide for a rollercoaster ride of varying tempos on sex-God dualist Prince and the New Power Generation’s new album. Loosely based around the story of a pop star’s wooing of a Middle Eastern princess, this lengthy effort is a vocal tour de force.
Not every track’s a keeper, but the first LP under Prince’s reported $100 million deal is more consistent than 1991’s “Diamonds and Pearls.” Actress Kirstie Alley plays a recurring reporter role throughout the album.
