Tom Hanks stars as a struggling, neurotic comic who’s befriended by a housewife (Sally Field) who dreams of becoming a comedienne in the bittersweet comedy “Punch Line.” Hanks does a terrific job of depicting the inner pain and anguish that torments so many comedians.
However, the film attempts to teeter between melodrama and comedy and ends up being only mildly successful in both areas. Also stars John Goodman. Rated R.
