Stone Temple Pilots: Purple (1994)

STP purpleBy Scott Goldfine

“Purple,” by the L.A.-based quartet Stone Temple Pilots, owes a lot to the band’s hard-rocking neighbors up the coast in Seattle, but not as much as their multiplatinum 1992 debut. Whereas STP shamelessly mimicked groups such as Pearl Jam and Nirvana last time around, now they merely reflect the strong influence of those acts.

That said, STP’s sophomore LP is serviceable, if not original.
