A scientist (Pierce Brosnan) uses a dim-witted subject (Jeff Fahey) in a radical intelligence-enhancing experiment in this horror entry based on a Stephen King short story. The project, which takes the subject into a videogame-like fantasy world called “virtual reality,” goes awry when homicidal side effects become apparent.
It’s an intriguing gimmick surrounded by a shallow, ordinary story. Rated R.
