Featured in TIR Episode 218 (Parts 1-2): The original drummer for Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan, Andre Fischer, who has also played on and produced more than 100 recordings for some of music’s biggest stars and talents. They include Natalie Cole, Rene & Angela, the Isley Brothers, Betty Wright, Gladys Knight, Nancy Wilson, Nina Simone, Patti Labelle, Dr. John, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra.
He was with Rufus through 1977, during which time the group had four straight Top 5 R&B albums and produced funk and soul classics like “Tell Me Something Good,” “You Got the Love,” “Once You Get Started,” “Pack’d My Bags,” “Sweet Thing,” “Dance Wit Me,” “At Midnight,” “Hollywood” and “Everlasting Love.” Prior to that, Fischer played with icons like Curtis Mayfield, Jerry Butler, Gene Chandler and Eddie Harris. Later on, he became a record co. executive and got involved in music academia.
