Featured in this special edition of TIR, Episode 349: Bobby Greenlee, a longtime associate of one of the greatest funk-soul bands of all time – the legendary Ohio Players. Growing up with the band members in his life, his professional relationship with the group began as a teenager in the mid-1970s, when he toured with the Players as a member of The Camelot Dancers. By then, the Ohio Players were world famous for classic hits like “Funky Worm,” “Skin Tight,” “Fire” and “Love Rollercoaster.”
Those fortunate to see the band perform back then, as I did, or catch some of their television appearances, undoubtedly recall those highly entertaining dancers supercharging the Players’ party. Greenlee would go on to become the group’s booking agent and later their road manager, as he remains today. During the past several years, he has been instrumental in helping me line up interviews with Ohio Player OGs like James Diamond Williams, Billy Beck and Chet Willis, of which I am most grateful.
