Brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET and hosted by Scott Goldfine — musicologist and author of “Everything Is on THE ONE: The First Guide of Funk” ― “TRUTH IN RHYTHM” is the interview show that gets DEEP into the pocket with contemporary music’s foremost masters of the groove.
Featured in TIR Episode 118 (Parts 1-3): Singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer Carl McIntosh, best known for his leadership role with the popular and unique 1980s British soul, funk and dance music trio Loose Ends.
During that decade, the group — which also included founder and keyboardist Steve Nichol and vocalist Jane Eugene — released five albums, three of which went Top 20 in the U.K., and two of which rose to the United States’ R&B Top 10. From those spawned a half-dozen Top 40 singles within the U.K. and Six Top 10 R&B tracks within the U.S. — among those the No. 1 smashes, “Hangin’ On a String” in 1984 and “Slow Down” in 1986. Another song, “Watching You,” peaked at No. 2 in 1988. McIntosh also worked with Five Star and other hit-makers.
After a 30-year layoff, he is back in full swing, rejuvenated and bringing Loose Ends back to stages, with a new studio album in the wings. Here, McIntosh tells the comprehensive Loose Ends story like it has never been told before.
