Featured in TIR Episode 340: Singer, bassist, composer and producer Joyce “Fenderella” Irby, best known as a core member of Klymaxx – the successful and trailblazing all-female funk, R&B and pop band. The group notched seven Top 20 R&B hits between 1984 and 1990 that included the dancefloor jams “The Men All Pause” and “Meeting in the Ladies Room,” and the ballads “I Miss You” and “I’d Still Say Yes.”
Launching her solo career in 1989, she scored the hit, “Mr. DJ,” featuring rapper Doug E. Fresh. In 2022, she released her acclaimed autobiography, “I’d Still Say Yes,” subtitled “A Dreamer’s Account of Surviving the Entertainment Business.” She continues to perform as Klymaxx with Joyce “Fenderella” Irby and is recording new music with The Femme Mafia.
