Featured in TIR Episode 188 (2 parts): Musician, composer and producer Michael Lane, otherwise known as Mico Wave. Having grown up in a musical family and performed in bands from an early age, in the mid-1980s he found himself being mentored by none other than funk bass legend Bootsy Collins. Lane, as Mico Wave, in 1987 released the album Cookin’ From the Inside Out! in which not only Bootsy figured prominently but also fellow funk stars Bernie Worrell, Maceo Parker, and Catfish Collins.
Lane also collaborated with Bootsy on projects by Trouble Funk, Herbie Hancock and George Clinton. Also influenced by Prince and Roger Troutman, Lane went on to work with many other noteworthy artists as well as score films. Most recently, he released the funky EP called The Definition and plans to put out more material in 2021.
